Emotional Night at Hanover Raceway

Hanover | by Fred Wallace

Large purse on the line as the House family enjoyed a memorable night in Hanover.

The " Balanced Image " Final highlighted the 11 race card Saturday night at Hanover Raceway.
Lorne House's third win of the night was by far his biggest, as he took " Rival Seelster " to the win in 2 minutes & 1.
House managed to avoid some early congestion that saw three trotters break in turn 1 & 2, and navigated his way to the lead by the opening backstretch.
From there, " Rival Seelster " who had the post position was never really threatened, winning by a comfortable margin over " Crowingcrest " & Trevor Ritchie
The night and the highlight race were emotional affairs.
Prior to the Balanced Image Final, Doug Nash of Cambridge who was associated with " Balanced Image " from an early age and later was the farm manager where the horse was stabled, spoke passionately about his memories of the horse, its legacy and how thrilled he is to see a track like Hanover Raceway maintain the memory and tradition of great Ontario racing.
At the conclusion of the interview, Nash called for " Rival Seelster ", an 11 to 1 long shot to win the final.
Meanwhile, following the race, owner Natasha House was in tears as she joined her husband, Lorne, and grandfather Alf in the winner's circle. Part of that emotion could be attributed to winning the purse money in Hanover's 2nd biggest race of the season, but more likely, the thrill of the victory for " Rival Seelster " moved her.

The purse for the "Balanced Image" Final was 66 thousand dollars.

Hanover Raceway has two more cards left in the 2013 season; Rona Night on September 7th & Hanover Travel & Cruises Night to conclude the season on September 14th.
