Sonics Lose, SWAT wins

Owen Sound soccer teams split weekend action on the pitch.

The Owen Sound Joe Tomato’s Swat (Soccer with Attitude) defeated the Wilmot Wolverines 3-0 in Girls u16 South West Regional Soccer League action on Monday night in Wilmot.

Leading the way for Owen Sound was Jade Jones with two goals.

Clar McArthur also scored in the win.

Taya Schipprack, Devon Winter and Chelsea Connelly all shared the shutout.

Owen Sound remains in First place with a 11-2-0 record and undefeated in league play.

SWAT’s next game is at the Kiwanis soccer complex on Friday night against Woolwich.

The Owen Sound Sonics fell to the Waterloo Azzuri 1-0 on Sunday evening in Women's Soccer action.

The Sonics had difficult start finding their feet on Sunday evening as the Azzuri took to the net late in the 1st half.

This was the lone and unanswered goal of the game scored by Amberleigh McCulligh.

Entering into the 2nd half the Sonics seemed to gain some strides and had many opportunities with 2 shoots hitting posts and several close chances.

The Sonics were unable to bury these shots into the back of the net.

The Sonics next game will be again hosted at Bechtel Park in Waterloo against Wildfire Heat.

The Heat are seated 7th under the Owen Sound Sonics.

With 3 games left in the season there is still hope for a 4th overall finish in the season.

Upcoming home games will be held on September 2nd (vs. Kitchener Celtic) and September 15th (vs. Stratford CT Ladies), both at 5pm at the Kiwanis Soccer Complex.
