Two members of the Meaford Coyotes Track Club attended the Minor Track and Field Provincial Championships on Saturday, July 20 in Toronto.
Kara Tichbourne, #665, competed in the Mite [7-8 year old] age group and Julia Tichbourne, #664, competed in the Tyke [9-10 year old] age group. Both raced the 1500m and 800m events.
Kara started the morning on the right foot as she knocked 11 seconds off her 1500m personal best and set a new Ontario record in the Mites category with a time of 5:58.73 minutes.
Sister Julia continued with a 1500m personal best performance of her own as she placed 3rd in the Tyke division with a time of 6:28.22. Julia improved her time by 7 seconds.
Later in the day both competed in the 800m event.
Kara collected her second gold medal of the day as she placed 1st with a time of 2:57.15 in the Mite Girls event.
Julia followed with a 4th place finish of 3:06.42 in the Tyke Girls event.
Both girls just missed their personal best times set a few weeks earlier.
