Barrie uses 15th overall pick to select Matthew Kreis from the Halton Hurricanes.

While the Barrie Colts are battling for the OHL championship this year, they are also looking to build for the future.

The 2013 OHL Priority Selection draft went on Saturday.

The Colts used their first pick -- 15th overall -- to select Matthew Kreis from the Halton Hurricanes.

The 16-year-old, 5-foot-10 centre from Georgetown scored 22 goals and 28 assists in 38 games with the Hurricanes this past season.

He also got a goal and 4 assists in 5 games during the 2013 OHL Cup.

Forward Travis Konecny was taken first overall by the Ottawa 67s.

There were a number of players from the Barrie Junior Colts that were taken in this year’s Priority Selection.

Defenseman Michael Holmes was chosen 28th overall by the Saginaw Spirit, the Mississauga Steelheads picked forward Austin Gerhardt with the 36th selection, and defenseman Tyler MacArthur went 37th overall to the Owen Sound Attack.
