Plymouth | by Kevin Bernard

Whalers score all of their goals in the third period to beat Owen Sound 4-1.

Game 1 of the OHL Western Conference semi-final series went to the Plymouth Whalers, who scored a 4-1 win over the Owen Sound Attack.

Sebastian Uvira scored twice as part of the four goal outburst in the third period by Plymouth on Friday night.

Gemel Smith scored the lone goal for the Owen Sound Attack and it came in the first period.

There was no scoring in the second period, but Garrett Meurs scored on the power play.

The Ripley native scored his 4th of the playoffs and that opened the flood gates.

Uvira would score the next two goals before Rickard Rakell buried a short-hander into an empty net for the 4-1 win by the Whalers in Game 1 of the best of 7 series.

The Attack had good chances on the powerplay but went 0 for 3 with the man advantage.

Owen Sound is now on a streak of "0 for 20" on the power play during these OHL playoffs.
