Eagles Scores For South-Central

St Catharines | by Bayshore News Staff

Eastern AAA Midget All-Stars win the OMHA Midget All Star Game.

Forty of the top Midget players in the OMHA took to the ice for the 2013 OMHA AAA Midget All-Star Game on Saturday January 26th, at the Seymour-Hannah Sports and Entertainment Centre in St. Catharines. The game was hosted in conjunction with the OMHA AAA Minor Midget Showcase. The Eastern AAA Midget All-Stars [ETA] and South Central AAA Midget All-Stars [SCTA] played in a close contest but for the second year in a row it ETA would come out victorious, 4-3.

The Midget All-Star event provides the OMHA the opportunity to recognize and highlight the talents of Midget players and coaches. It also provides an opportunity for the OMHA to actively interact with the players and their families. The opportunity to play with players they regularly play against offers the player more than just the experience of simply playing a game.

“Midget hockey is among the most exciting hockey to watch," said OMHA President Joyce Junker. "All-Star games such as these provide great opportunities to see the top Midget players recognized by their respective leagues all under one roof."

The ETA would jump out to an early 2-0 lead in the first period with both goals credited to Whitby Wildcat, Riley O’Connell. Clarington Toro’s forward, Ryan Taylor would put another one on the board for the ETA to make it 3-0 midway through the second period.

Mason Marchmant [Central Ontario Wolves] would extend the ETA’s lead to 4-0, three minutes in to the third period. The SCTA would make a late surge with goals by Jonathan Glynn [Brampton 45’s], Brandon Eagles [Grey-Bruce Highlanders] and Alex Riche [Oakville Rangers] but it would not be enough as the ETA would take the OMHA AAA Midget All-Star Game 4-3.

The participating clubs from the South Central Triple A League [SCTA] are Oakville Rangers, Halton Hills Hurricanes, Grey-Bruce Highlanders, Brampton 45s, Burlington Eagles, Niagara North Stars, Niagara Falls Rivermen, Guelph Storm, Hamilton Jr. Bulldogs, Central Ontario Wolves, Peterborough Minor Petes, Quinte Red Devils, Kingston Junior Frontenacs, Barrie Junior Colts, Ajax-Pickering Raiders, Markham Waxers, Clarington Toros, North Central Predators, South Central Coyotes, Oshawa Generals, Whitby Wildcats, and the York Simcoe Express.
