The Kincardine Bulldogs might have thought they had a shutout but the Goderich Sailors weren't going away quietly in a 6-2 Kincardine win in Western Junior C hockey.
With the Sailors trailing 6-0 late in the third period at the Davidson last night, Chace Duckworth broke the goose-egg on a set-up by Joseph Dykstra and Pat Kelly on the power play.
Less than two minutes later, Jesse McIntyre and Nick Gowing fed Dykstra for Goderich's second goal.
Sailors' head coach Bill Wilkinson credits his team for putting in what he called "a Hercules effort" with just ten skaters and gives special praise to backup goaltender Tyler MacGregor with a solid performance despite facing 50 shots.
Bulldogs backup Max Veilleux made 21 saves.
Former Sailor Jamie Miller led Kincardine with two goals -- Chad Simpson, Dallas Perkins, Jarred Colling and Joel Alton had singles.
The win moves Kincardine within three points of Walkerton.
The Hawks lost 6-4 to Wingham -- the Ironmen were led by league scoring leader Aaron Armstrong with three goals and an assist.
The Sailors' job doesn't get any easier tonight as they host first-place Walkerton then travel to Hanover on Sunday.
