The 31st annual Port Elgin Super Spiel championship goes to the Len Rominger rink from St. Catharines.
The Rominger foursome defeated Al Hutchinson of Owen Sound 5-4 to win the five thousand dollar first prize.
Rominger says it came down to his last rock to win the game in the 8th end.
He says he's taken part in the spiel for quite a few years and never qualified so this win was pretty sweet.
The winning team may have come from St. Catharines but it has a Port Elgin connection.
Second Bill Hall plays on the squad from his days when he worked in the Welland area.
He says he didn't mind being the third oldest in the entire spiel because they managed to win it all with a 6-and-0 record.
The Al Hutchinson rink from Owen Sound, also went into the final undefeated but the skip says the game was a game of inches and they just always seemed to be on the wrong side of the inch.
Hutchinson says the winners played a great game which was tied at 4, after 7-ends.
Hutchinson says he had a couple of rocks that took off him that cost the team and he pegged it as a huge turning point in the game.
He says he's been on the winning side five times now and he'll be back to compete next year in Super Spiel 32.
The consolation final at the Super Spiel went to the Dave Cobean rink of Port Elgin.
