The Owen Sound Strikers ended their regular season in the York Region Soccer League with a scoreless draw against Alliston Santos.
Owen Sound outshot Alliston 9-2 in the game but could not find a way to beat Santos goalkeeper Peter Libicz.
Sean Harrington had the best opportunity on a penalty shot in the second half but he misfired over the goal.
While Chris Mahy wasn't as busy in the Owen Sound goal -- he made a spectacular save in the first half, diving to his right.
Mahy finished the regular season with 10 shutouts.
Owen Sound Coach Bill Mahy was happy with the result despite the draw because he says his club played well.
Mahy adds they knew it would be a goaltending duel.
Owen Sound finished the regular season in first place in the First Division with 10 wins, a draw against the Santos and one loss -- and the Strikers allowed only two goals in 12 matches.
Alliston Santos could be a first round opponent for the Strikers in the playoffs -- depending on Huntsville's final game of the season.
Mahy hopes they can schedule something soon since many players will be going off to University.
Mahy also wants to see his offence improve in the postseason.
Because Owen Sound finished atop the First division -- the Strikers will be allowed to join the Premier Division of the York Region Soccer League next season.
That would mean two Owen Sound teams -- the Strikers and United -- would play in the Premier division next season.
