Chris Critelli of St Catharines grabbed the early lead on Tuesday at the Investors Group Ontario Senior Women's Amateur Championship, carding a three-under par 70 at Twenty Valley Golf and Country Club.
The St Catharines Golf & Country Club member carded eagles at the par five third and the reachable par four sixth to offset three bogeys on the front nine.
She got things going on the back nine with birdies at eleven, thirteen and fifteen to offset an unfortunate bogey at sixteen.
Critelli, a local favourite, leads the field by a stroke heading into Wednesday's second round.
Collingwood's Ellen Horton, representing Blue Mountain G & CC, is tied at 42nd overall at plus 14.
Maureen Burns, of Blue Mountain G & CC, is tied for 48th at plus 15.
