Longest Day of Golf Raises $ 57,000

The 19th annual " Longest day of Golf " at Walkerton Golf & Country Club was staged yesterday.

The event attracted 260 golfers over the course of the day and generated $ 57,614 which will be directed to the Canadian Cancer Society.

The first golfers teed off Tuesday morning at 5 am and the final group finished just before 9 pm last event.

Organizing Committee team member Joe Rys says it was a terrific day from every regard and he's thrilled at the growth of the event and the funds generated.

Over the course of 19 years, the " Longest Day of Golf " has raised more than $ 635,000.

Rys characterizes Walkerton and Grey-Bruce as being exceptionally generous and supportive of the promotion.

Next year will mark the 20th anniversary of the event and Rys admits the planning and recruiting process is already well underway
