It was a tough night for the Stayner Siskins in more ways than one. The Siskins lost their first game of the playoffs to the Alliston Hornets 4-3 in a game packed with roughing and unsportsmanlike conduct penalties.
The Barrie Colts hosted the Kitchener Rangers at the Molson Centre last night, and defeated the Rangers 5-3. Tanner Pearson scored his 35th goal of the season and Mathias Niederberger stopped 35 shots in net for the Colts. Barrie will host Oshawa at the B-M-C tomorrow night.
The Montreal Canadiens recovered from blowing a late 4-1 lead in the third period, and beat Minnesota 5-4 ending a five-game losing skid. Montreal plays host to the Toronto Maple Leafs tomorrow night.
Elsewhere, the Vancouver Canucks won a showdown for first place in the overall N-H-L standings, beating St. Louis 2-nothing, to open a three point lead over the Blues. Calgary went on to beat Phoenix 4-2. Winnipeg stomped all over Florida routing the Panthers 7-nothing.
Pittsburgh Pirates pitcher A-J Burnett is scheduled to undergo surgery today to repair a fractured right orbital bone. The former Toronto Blue Jays' right-hander injured himself on Wednesday during spring training in Florida after a bunt attempt ricocheted off his face.
And, C-C-I’s junior and senior Fighting Owls boys’ basketball teams are off to Ottawa on Monday to compete in the OFSAA championships. They’ll be competing against 18 teams in the Four-A division for the provincial title. The Senior Fighting Owls defeated the Nantyr Shores Tritons 61-39 to earn their spot in the competition while the Juniors beat the Eastview Wildcats 50-48.
