Former Toronto Maple Leaf Darryl Sittler’s record for most points in a game was almost shattered last night by Sam Gagner (GAHN-yay) of the Edmonton Oilers. Gagner had four goals and four assists in the Oilers 8-4 win over Chicago. Sittler racked up 10 points in a game against Boston back in February 1976.

Meanwhile, New Jersey rallied from a 3-1 deficit to beat Montreal 5-3; the Winnipeg Jets beat Tampa Bay 2-1in overtime and Detroit beat Vancouver in a shootout 4-3 to pad their lead over the Canucks in the Western Conference.

In Stayner, the worst scored first in Junior ‘C’ playoff action. The Fergus Devils opened the scoring midway through the second period, but the Siskins answered back just 2 minutes later and kept the heat on in a 4-2 Game 1 victory over Fergus. Cody Brown scored twice for Stayner including an empty-netter in the third period. Game 2 goes Saturday night in Fergus followed by Game 3 Sunday afternoon back in Stayner.

The Barrie Colts are back in action tonight on the road in Mississauga. The Colts are coming off a 2-1 victory over Ottawa. Colts forward Tanner Pearson is back from Kelowna, B.C. where he set up the game-winning goal at the C-H-L/N-H-L Top Prospects game earlier this week.

Former C-F-L quarterback Tom Clements has been promoted by the Green Bay Packers to offensive co-ordinator. He’ll be replacing Joe Philbin, who took the Miami Dolphins coaching job. Clements played in the C-F-L with Ottawa, Saskatchewan, Winnipeg and Hamilton, and was later named to the Canadian Football Hall of Fame.
