The Wingham Ironmen are the latest team to benefit from the Goderich Sailors' second straight third period collapse in the Western Junior C Hockey League.
Wingham has jumped into a tie for second place with idle Hanover as the Ironmen skated away from MRC with an 8-1 victory over winless Goderich on Saturday night.
Travis Donaldson led the Wingham attack with three goals, with Phil Boertien scoring twice and singles from Wade Stephenson, Aaron Armstrong and Brett Brophy.
Armstrong also added four assists for the Ironmen.
The Sailors' Brandon Dykxhoorn tied the game 1-1 at 3:10 of the second period on the set-up by Josh Martel and Brandon Priestap.
The loss is frustrating for Goderich head coach Mark Uniac.
The Sailors were trailing 3-1 in the third period when they allowed four goals in less than two minutes and a total of five in the period.
Mitchell scored five third-period goals in an 8-1 victory over the Sailors a week earlier.
Goderich plays the first game of a home-and-home set in Mount Forest on Friday night.
Wingham visits Mitchell next Saturday.
In other Western Junior C hockey play on Saturday night -- Kincardine beat Mount Forest 5-1 and Walkerton downed Mitchell 7-4.
