3rd Period Letdown Costs Sailors

Mitchell blows Saturday's Jr. C hockey game open with five goals in the third period

Andrew Davis scored a hat-trick and assisted on a fourth goal as the Mitchell Hawks scored five goals in the third period to defeat the Goderich Sailors 8-1 in Western Junior C hockey at MRC.

The victory Saturday keeps Mitchell in third-place, one point back of Hanover and one point ahead of Wingham.

The Sailors remain winless through 22 games.

The Hawks also got two goals from Brent Rae and one each from Jalen Aitcheson, Scott Fries and Ryan Magagnin.

Tristan Rae scored the Sailors' lone goal on a set-up from Brandon Dykxhoorn at 11:46 of the second period to tie the game 1-1 after a scoreless first period.

Mitchell outshot Goderich 39-27.

Mitchell travels to Wingham on Friday while the Sailors face Wingham Saturday at MRC at 8pm.

In Saturday's other Western Junior C play, Drew Davidson led Walkerton with two goals as they downed Hanover 7-2.
