Winterhawks Begin Season

Saugeen Shores | by John Divinski

Saugeen Shores will host Walkerton to open WOAA Senior Mens Hockey Season.

It's showtime for the Saugeen Shores Winterhawks.

The senior "AA" hockey club takes to the ice tonight defending their second league championship in four years.

There's also a new head coach behind the bench.

Jim Grieve is replacing Don Matheson who resigned at the end of last season.

Grieve says the team is ready after a month of quick and spirited practices under their belts.

The Hawks will host the Walkerton Capitals tonight and Grieve says the visiting squad has always given the home team trouble and word is the Capitals have grown stronger although they've lost their first two games.

Grieve admits he'll be a little nervous behind the bench tonight but he's hoping for a good crowd to help him and the team notch their first win of the season.

The Winterhawks and Walkerton Capitals at the Plex tonight at 8:30 PM in the season opener for both teams.
