The Avon-Maitland District School Board has its "Big Idea" for the 2011-12 School Year.
Superintendent Peggy Blair tells us that each year the board picks a theme to define what it aims to improve upon.
This school year, the focus is on the board's Equity and Inclusion strategy.
The Ontario Human Rights Commission has added socio-economic status to its list of factors to be considered when one looks to be inclusionary.
Religion, ancestry, ethnic origin, culture and ability are among other thing to be aware of in a positive manner.
Blair says the Big Idea is developed by district leaders in August and becomes part of each school's achievement plan.
It will be a theme during Professional Development days.
The work will also be highlighted on the AMDSB's website throughout the year.
