At the 2011 Senior Mens Fastball Championships in Owen Sound, Newfoundland beat the Owen Sound Selects 8-0.
The Selects then played a huge game against the Port Elgin Blue Devils where the Selects held on to a 8-6 win in a late inning thriller.
Frank Cox picked up the victory going 5.1 innings gave up 7 hits 5 runs and struck out 7 batters.
The game could have been a seven run mercy but with two outs in the 5th inning -- Port Elgin rallied for five runs and kept the game alive.
Ryan Thompson and Andrew Scott both had two hits and two RBIs, Adam Dearborn also added three hits in the vicotry.
Mike Riley hit a three run homerun in the 5thinning.
Aaron Whitney followed Riley with a solo shot in the 5th to get the game to 7-5 but that was as close as the Blue Devils would get in the game.
With the win Owen Sound evens up at "3 and 3" and will now play at 8:30 PM vs Quebec in a big game for double life reasons.
The loss moves Port Elgin to "2 and 3" and they now play two big games at 2 PM vs Quebec and 6:30 PM vs PEI.
In other action;
The Kitchener Hallman Twins beat New Brunswick 7-2.
New Brunswick did get a win taking Softball Quebec 3-0 .
British Colombia won 3-0 over PEI.
Then BC lost to Newfoundland 5-0.
With the win Newfoundland clinched 1st place overall and are now "6 and 0" in the tournament.
Owen Sound sits 5th at "3 and 3" and Port Elgin sits 6th at "2 and 3."
PEI is last at "0 and 5."
