Dave Bunker Rolls into Third Round at Ontario Men's Match Play Championship

Port Carling, ON (GOLF ASSOCIATION OF ONTARIO) - Two-time champion Dave Bunker of Woodbridge continued his run for a third Ontario Men's Match Play Championship title Wednesday, rolling over Oshawa's James Krantz during second round action at The Lake Joseph Club in Port Carling, Ontario.

Bunker, who earned his first Match Play title in 2003 and hoisted the trophy again last year, sent Krantz home on the 13th hole with a resounding 6&5 victory, lining up a third round match for Bunker against Thornton's Ryan Curran. Several thunderstorms moving through the area prevented the full field from completing the third round Wednesday afternoon as scheduled, with the conclusion of those matches now set for Thursday morning.

Also advancing through to the third round was 2010 Ontario Amateur champion Corey Conners , 19, of Listowel who defeated Toronto's Lucas Kim 6&5. Former Ontario Junior Boys' Match Play Champion and Golf Canada Development Team member Brandon Ng of Toronto squeaked by 2010 Ontario Summer Games gold medalist Turner Southey Gordon on the 20th hole, setting up a third round match against Amherstburg's Quinn Vilneff.

The remainder of the third round is set for Thursday morning, followed by the quarter-final and semi-final matches. The 2011 champion will be crowned on Friday morning.

The Ontario Men's Match Play Championship is contested annually and features 64 of Ontario's best amateur golfers that have qualified through one of six qualifying tournaments held earlier this season, or who have gained an exemption into the event. Notable former champions include the PGA Tour's David Hearn, Dave Bunker, and current Big Break Indian Wells contestant David Byrne, who captured the title in 2007, 2008, and 2009.
