Fire Hits Store, Apartments

Fire causes about half a million dollars in damage at Around the Sound, apartments.

Damage is likely over Half-a-million dollars following an early morning blaze on Owen Sound's east side.

Flames hit the "Around the Sound Food market" building, which also contains eight apartments, on 6th Street East just before 4 AM on Wednesday.

Police and firefighters responded and found three people trapped on the third floor of the burning building.

Owen Sound police were first on the scene and helped rescued a man from the building, and firefighters then pulled two women to safety.

All three residents were taken to Owen Sound hospital for treatment of smoke inhalation.

There is heavy fire damage on the third floor and roof of the building, while the secondand first floor suffered smoke and water damage.

Owen Sound fire was assisted by the Intertownship and West Grey fire departments.

They managed to put out the flames by 7 AM.

No one was seriously injured.

The cause is under investigation, although the fire is believed to have started on the third floor.
