It's Healthy Awareness Week for Avon Maitland District School Board students.
AMDSB System Principal Eleanor Salmon tells Bayshore Broadcasting News the purpose is to highlight all the great work going on in the schools.
Salmon tells us many schools are holding different events to highlight different health aspects.
She says overall they want to promote a healthy school initiative, physical environment, and social environment.
In honour of the week long event the students are doing a lot of tweeting via the school websites.
Salmon says students are talking about various components that make up a healthy school.
She tells us students and teachers are sharing information about how to eat healthy.
Salmon notes tips on how to stay healthy were sent to all AMDSB families.
Salmon says the AMDSB premiered a new video recently in partnership with the Perth and Huron Health Units.
She says a copy of the Healthy eating video will be provided to all Principals to share with staff members.
Salmon adds the video highlights steps toward becoming a healthy school.
Salmon says Healthy Awareness week teaches students about healthy eating, physical activity, healthy growth, and mental health.
She adds the week finishes up Fridaybut work on the healthy school initiative will continue into the future.
