The San Jose Sharks and Tampa Bay Lightning find themselves up 2 games to none in the N-H-L playoff semifinals. The Sharks defeated the Detroit Red Wings 2-1 in a Sunday matinee while the Washington Capitals lost to Tampa Bay in overtime 3-2.

Tonight, Philadelphia will try to rebound from their Game 1 loss to Boston in Game 2 at 7:30.

Canada remained perfect at the World Hockey Championship by beating France 9-1 Sunday in Slovakia. Calder Trophy finalist Jeff Skinner scored two goals including one on a penalty shot, and Toronto Maple Leafs rookie James Reimer made 32 saves for Canada.

And from the O-H-A Junior ‘C’ playoffs, the Alliston Hornets just ran out of steam against Grimsby. The Peach Kings won their 3rd Schmalz Cup defeating the Hornets 3-1 yesterday and finishing the series 4 games to 1.

Basketball, and the conference semi-finals are under way with Memphis taking Game 1 of the Western Conference semi over Oklahoma City 114-101 while the Miami Heat cooked the Boston Celtics 99-90 in the N-B-A East. Tonight, it’s Game 1 between Atlanta & Chicago in the East and Dallas & L-A in the West.

In Major League Baseball, the Toronto Blue Jays had to settle for just one win out of three against the New York Yankees over the weekend. Jesse Litsch surrendered a 3-run homer in the 5th inning and the Jays dropped Sunday’s series finale 5-2. The Jays will try to put some more numbers in the win column when they start a 3-game series tomorrow night at Tampa Bay.

The rain mostly held off, but not the wind for Day 10 of the Georgian Triangle Spring Derby. Zack Mather caught a 5.58lb rainbow to win big fish of the day. Good news is the wind is expected to lighten up today. Derby tickets are still available.
