Catholic Education Week

Bruce Grey | by Robyn Garvey

Students will be participating in events that highlight and reflect upon Catholic education.

It's Catholic Education Week and the Bruce Grey Catholic School Board is celebrating.

Director of Education Bruce MacPherson says the theme of this year's celebration is ‘Catholic Education: Celebrating the Spirit.’

All week long, students will be participating in a variety of events that highlight and reflect upon Catholic education.

Events range from raising money for overseas missions to participating in various sporting and musical events as well as spirit days, school Masses and even a safety festival.

MacPherson says the week is about nurturing the mind as well as the soul.

In an age when the future of Catholic schools is called into question, MacPherson says it's important students, staff and the community band together to celebrate the gift of Catholic education.

The highlight of the week takes place on Tuesday.

Guest speaker Doctor Mark McGowan will provide a talk on the importance of Catholic Education at the Walkerton Knights of Columbus Hall during a special dinner.

McGowan is the principal of St. Michael's College, University of Toronto and a renown historian.
