Walkerton is playing host to Midwestern Ontario's largest female rugby tournament of the year.
It's the 5th annual Doogie Cup Tournament and 24 teams are participating in today’s event, the largest number to date.
Sacred Heart Coach Bill King says the tournament pays tribute to former Sacred Heart student and rugby player Allison Dugas.
Dugas was tragically killed in a car accident six year ago on her way to an OFSAA Banquet.
King, who was Dugas coach, says the Doogie Cup is all about honouring Dugas's life and her love of the game.
This year's event has grown so much that it will take place on three fields -- Sacred Heart High School, Walkerton District Secondary School and Mother Teresa School.
The tournament is unique in the fact that scores are not recorded.
Instead the girls will spend the day playing rugby and celebrating the game in Dugas's honour.
Participants will also receive a Doogie Cup t-shirt with Allison Dugas's number 9 on the side.
The tournament begins at 9 AM and will wrap up this afternoon at 3:30 PM.
