In N-H-L action last night, The Chicago Blackhawks increased their lead on 9th-place Calgary with a 3-2 overtime victory in Detroit. Chicago sits 8th in the West with 90 points, three up on Calgary. The Blackhawks have 7 games left, while the Flames have just 5. Elsewhere, Anaheim defeated Colorado 5-4.

There are 11 games on the N-H-L schedule tonight. Toronto hosts Buffalo and will try to narrow the gap in the race for the final playoff spot in the East. Meanwhile, Atlanta visits Montreal, Tampa Bay welcomes Ottawa, Vancouver travels to Nashville, and Edmonton entertains Los Angeles.

O-H-L action saw Sudbury jump to a 2-0 series lead over Ottawa with a 5-3 win last night in the nickel city. Elsewhere, Kitchener topped Plymouth 3-1, Windsor tripled Erie 6-2 and Guelph defeated Saginaw 7-3.

Locally, The Collingwood Midget ‘A’ Legion Vet Blackhawks capped their successful hockey season with 4 straight wins during the Cross Border Clash in Baltimore, Ontario over the weekend to earn the ‘A’ Division championship. Goaltenders D.J. West and Jay Payton provided solid netminding for the champs. Along with the tournament championship, the Legion Vets ended their season as O-M-H-A quarter-finalists, placed second in league play, and reached the semi-finals in the Huronia tournament and league playoffs.

In Exhibition Baseball, Kyle Drabek fanned 5, and allowed 5 hits over 5 innings in a losing cause as the Boston Red Sox edged the Toronto Blue Jays 3-2 in the Grapefruit League. The game was shortened to 7-and-a-half innings because of rain. Brett Cecil takes the mound for the Jays today when they visit Baltimore at 1:05.

Canada rallied from an early deficit to upend Guadeloupe 2-1 in the opening game of the CONCACAF under-20 men's soccer championship. A loss would have left Canada in a deep hole in the FIFA under-20 World Cup qualifying tournament. Canada take on Costa Rica in their final opening-round match Friday.
