Scores and Games

In N-H-L action, Montreal was doubled over by Washington last night as the Caps won their 9th in a row, 4-2. Meanwhile, Pittsburgh beat Ottawa 5-1 and the Calgary Flames' grip on the final playoff spot in the Western Conference took a hit, with a 4-3 loss to Phoenix.

N-H-L G-M's meeting in Florida announced they'd like to see a tighter enforcement of rules on charging and boarding. But, they stopped short of recommending a ban on all head hits. Besides stricter penalties for charging and boarding, the G-M's are calling for longer suspensions for illegal head hits, especially by repeat offenders.

In local hockey, it’s not over yet for the Stayner Siskins. Stayner upended Alliston Hornets with a 4-1 victory over the Hornets in the G-M-O-J-H-L championship final. Game 6 goes tomorrow night in Stayner with the Siskins down 3 games to 2.

In Exhibition Baseball, Blue Jays’ starter Jesse Litsch allowed 4 earned runs on 9 hits while striking out 4 over 3-and-a-third innings in a 13-7 loss to Philadelphia.
Right-hander Kyle Drabek will take the mound when the Blue Jays visit the Pittsburgh Pirates this afternoon at 1:05.

And in tennis, Milos Raonic was ousted in the 3rd round at the B-N-P Paribas Masters at Indian Wells, California. The Thornhill native lost to fellow wild-card entry Ryan Harrison, 7-6, 4-6, 6-4.
