Making Greener Factories

Huron County | by Peter Jackson

Huron Manufacturing Association pushes to make factories more energy efficient.

The drive to create a greener Huron County focuses on the industrial sector with a new initiative to make factories more energy-efficient.

Co-ordinator of the Huron Manufacturing Association, Monica Walker-Bolton says her organization is launching the Manufacturing Efficiencies Project.

The initiative is a partnership involving the HMA, the midwestern green jobs strategy and the County's sustainability plan which was set in motion late last year.

Walker-Bolton says competition and technological advance have put industry on the fast-track to environmental responsibility.

She says manufacturers are already energy-efficient but there is always room for improvement.

Walker-Bolton tells us the community at large will benefit from information gained from project participants.

She says the Association will learn more about what's being done already to save energy and reduce manufacturers' carbon footprint.

Video information about environmentally responsible industrial practice and innovation will be posted on the Huron Manufacturing Association website.

Information gained from participants will also be shared with other industries throughout the County.

Deadline for applications to be involved in the Manufacturing Efficiencies Project is March 31st.

Downloadable application forms are available through the Sustainable Huron blog at
