Learning About United Way

Tiverton | by John Divinski

Bruce Power hosts United Way and its agencies to inform employees about its donations.

What is the United Way of Grey-Bruce?

Employees at Bruce Power will find out first hand today as they arrive for work.

Bruce Power Community and Government Relations Manager Ross Lamont says they're holding a United Way day today at the plant.

Lamont says the 20-plus agencies that make up the United Way family have been invited to set up booths or information kiosks to let the workers know where their donated dollars are going.

He says in the past, employees through payroll deductions and special events have donated over 350 thousand dollars to the United Way.

Lamont says this event is an opportunity to see what kinds of services the money supports.

Just this week -- Bruce Power announced a 50 thousand dollar donation to the United Way's Winter Warmth program, which helps low income families and residents with monthly energy costs.

Last year the United Way of Grey-Bruce raised 600 thousand dollars.
