Construction Values Top $32-Million Through June In Saugeen Shores

Saugeen Shores | by Matt Hermiz

Town reports strong development numbers, despite pandemic.

Despite the pandemic, Saugeen Shores continued to see strong development numbers in the first half of 2020.

The Town of Saugeen Shores says in a release construction values topped $32-million from January-to-June, well above the five-year average for that period.

The total includes residential, commercial, institutional, agricultural, and other new builds, as well as renovations, additions and demolitions.

As of yesterday, 155 building permits have been issued in Saugeen Shores this year. Fifty-five of those are for new homes.

Mayor Luke Charbonneau says it would be an understatement to say 2020 has been a challenging year for construction projects.

"But these building numbers demonstrate Saugeen Shores' continued growth, which is creating new opportunities to improve our residents' quality of life throughout our community."
