Victim Loses Money to Scam

Orangeville Police warn residents about the Publisher's Clearing House Scam.

There's a new scam in town.

Orangeville Police say a resident was recently targeted by the Publisher’s Clearing House scam after being told he won some money.

A 69-year-old Orangeville man saw a post on Instagram on January 7th, with a list of alleged million dollar prize winners - and his name was on it.

There was instructions regarding how to claim the prize and the man was instructed to buy gift cards and to send photos of the back of the cards revealing the scratched off redemption codes. 

The man ended up sending $6,500 dollars in gift cards before a relative urged him to call police.
