A Saugeen Shores Nordic Cross-County Skier is now donning a festive toque of her own design.

Last winter, 98 the Beach brought you the story of how Kate Burridge-MacDonald (8) of the Bruce Ski Club was one of ten contestants in a cross-Canada toque design contest for the "Jackrabbit" ski level.

The eight year old who was the only Ontario contestant, won the competition and the young skier and her fellow Jackrabbits now have their baby blue toques to wear this winter season.

"There are two Puffins, a Polar Bear on skis and a lot of snowflakes...I just feel that Puffins and Polar Bears are really wintry critters," says the artist.

Kate has been cross-country skiing since she was 2 and skies the trails at Sawmill Nordic Centre in Hepworth.

She says her fellow Bruce Ski Club athletes think it's "really cool" that her design won and they couldn't wait for the hats to come in.

Kate's proud father, Jason MacDonald says his family wanted to thank all those who voted for Kate's Polar Bear and Puffin design.

"We're just really excited and we're so happy the community rallied around her hat design," he says.
