Looming Provincial Cuts Prompt Termination of Three Grey Bruce Health Unit Managers

Regional | by Cody Misner

Spokesperson says these changes in staffing are part of the Health Unit's effort to retain frontline services.

The Grey Bruce Health Unit has terminated three managers due to looming budget cuts.

Staff was informed Monday morning of the job losses.

Drew Ferguson, Public and Media Relations Coordinator for the Health Unit, says these changes are the Health Unit bracing for financial strain in 2021.

He says that no further job loss is anticipated at all.

"We are looking ahead to significant changes to provincial funding over the coming years, recognize these changes have to be implemented in 2021 and need to be processed this year," Ferguson says.

According to a past Bayshore Broadcasting report, the health unit expects to lose $1.1-million in provincial funding due to changes to the funding formula for public health services being implemented by the Ford government.

The functions performed by the three terminated managers will be spread across other areas now, Ferguson notes.

The departments experiencing the adjustment have not been indicated out of respect for the individuals who lost their jobs.
