United Way Investing In Tackling Homeless In Huron County

Huron County | by Fadi Didi

"Housing Advocate" and temporary emergency shelter among tactics being used to combat Huron's homelessness.

Huron County is getting some help from the United Way of Perth-Huron in tackling the issue of local homelessness.

The organization is working with the Town of Goderich and local service providers to have temporary emergency shelter in place during the cold season.

A new "Housing Advocate" is also helping to find housing for those in need.

During the 2018 Huron Homelessness Enumeration, 100 individuals identified themselves as having experienced homelessness.

A fundraising walk -- The Coldest Night of the Year -- has been scheduled for February 22nd, and will raise money to benefit "hungry, homeless, and hurting people in the community."
