The Saugeen Shores Winterhawks remain tied for top spot in the WOAA Senior Hockey League.
The Hawks, with a 5-goal outburst in the third period, downed the Milverton 4-Wheel Drives, 5-1 at the Plex, Friday night (Jan. 3).
Milverton opened the scoring at 7:55 of the second period and for the rest of way were shutout by goalie Eric Peicheff.
However, the Hawks didn't get on the board until 4:14 of the 3rd when Adam Kading scored.
With a pair of goals by Miles MacLean and singles from Mike Rocca and Jamie Shoemaker, all in the third, the Hawks pulled off a 5-1 victory.
Coach Matt Turcotte says the squad needed to plug away and go to the net and it paid off in the third.
With Clinton's 7-3 win over Seaforth, it leaves the Hawks and the Radars tied for first place.
However, that could change as other games play out on the weekend.
Going into Friday's play, Saugeen Shores, Clinton, Ripley and Shelburne were all tied for 1st place.
Other scores Friday night: Minto 81's edged Shallow Lake Crushers, 4-3; Durham Thundercats blanked the Lucknow Lancers, 7-0 and Tillsonburg defeated Petrolia 9-3.
The Winterhawks next game is on the road in Shelburne as they take on the Muskies on Saturday, January 11th.
The next home game is Friday, January 17th when the Hawks host Seaforth.
