Goderich is declaring a climate emergency, but how to deal with it will be discussed by Town Council later this month.
Council in December voted to table a motion on the declaration, until they've decided how to implement it.
Mayor John Grace says the declaration comes under the Partners for Protection program launched by the Federation of Canadian Municipalities.
The aim is for local governments nationwide to share their ideas and action on reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
Grace says the measure is also designed to let the provinces and Ottawa know that municipalities are being proactive on the climate change issue.
The Partners for Protection program involves a five-point approach that ranges from measuring the volume of greenhouse gas emissions a community creates, to setting reduction targets.
