That's the message to sledders during the milder temperatures from the OPP and the Ontario Federation of Snowmobile Clubs (OFSC).

Police say you should keep snowmobiles off frozen waterways too for safety's sake while it's warmer

OPP responded to their first snowmobile fatality of the season earlier this month after a man lost control of his sled. This tragic death is the latest reminder that snowmobiling comes with an unpredictable environment and unique set of risks.

Police say that excessive speed, driving too fast for the conditions, losing control and alcohol are among the top contributing factors in OPP-investigated snowmobile fatalities every season.

To see which trails remain open in your area check the OFSC Interactive Trail Guide for real-time updates.
