Come the new year, the Huron County Health Unit will be no more.
On January 1st, 2020, the regional health unit will merge with its counterpart in Perth County, to become Huron Perth Public Health (HPPH).
The amalgamation was planned before the Doug Ford Progressive Conservatives announced they would slash the number of Ontario health units, from 35 down to 10.
Funding for health units is now under a formula that sees the province pay 70 per-cent of the cost, with municipalities covering the remaining 30 per-cent.
Representation on the board of HPPH is based on population and is comprised of nine municipal representatives (four from the County of Huron, two from Perth County, two from Stratford, one from St. Marys) and four provincial appointees.
The HPPH's main office locations will be in Stratford and Clinton, with satellite offices in Wingham, Listowel and downtown Stratford.
The number to reach HPPH will be 1-888-221-2133, and the website will be www.hpph.ca.
