The transition for the new grade 7 and 8 students attending Saugeen District Senior School (SDSS) has gone well for the most part and now the SDSS School Community Council (SCC) is fundraising for outdoor play equipment.
Approximately 230 elementary students have their own designated play space at SDSS which features a field, two basketball nets and benches.
Parent and SCC member Karen Fehr says the council has already started fundraising for more equipment.
"With input from the students and the School Council and Administration we plan to use any money raised to do this," says Fehr.
She adds the student have voted for what they would like to see, "they've mentioned wanting a swing-set more sitting areas and basketball nets."
Fehr says so far $4,500 has been raised from student efforts; as well as a donation by Lakeside Control and a bench provided by the South-Port Horticultural Society.
"Last month we sold reusable grocery bags and produce bags... it was a huge success and next month in January we're partnering with Lakeshore Recreation and we're going to be presenting a Trivia Night, every Thursday... it's open to everyone."
The Trivia nights cost $20 for a team and will kick-off at 7 pm on January 9, 2020.
Fehr says half of the proceeds from the Trivia Nights will go towards new equipment.
