Government Program to Protect Vulnerable Seniors

Dufferin-Caledon | by Jill Young

Thousands of Ontario seniors affected by dementia are at risk of going missing, the government is pledging money to help prevent that.

The province is helping families, caregivers and communities recognizing the risks of dementia to keep people safe.

Dufferin Caledon MPP Sylvia Jones says over 120,000 seniors with dementia in Ontario are at risk of wandering and going missing.

The provincial government has pledged $600,000 to the Alzheimer Society's Finding Your Way Program.

The program provides practical tools and advice for individuals and caregivers to reduce the risk of someone with dementia from going missing.

The Dufferin branch of the Alzheimer Society will get $5,000 to work with those in the community that need to be aware of the risks.
