A long-time Saugeen Shores fundraiser has come to an end.

After 24 years the Rotary Club of Port Elgin has announced the end of the Jeff Preston Celebrity Golf Tournament which raises fund for Muscular Distrophy.

Port Elgin Rotary Club President Steve Dennison says "with Jeff Preston and his family's blessing we would like to thank our community for 24 years of amazing support.  Together we helped raise $1,500,000 for MD research with our annual Celebrity golf tournament every July.  From the golfers to the sponsors to the volunteers who came out year after year, we thank you.  This was a local effort to try and tackle a global problem."

He adds that when the tournament began Preston was the Easter Seals "poster child" and was "famous in his own right".

"After all these years Jeff has grown into a man.  He holds a PHD, is married and is a professor at University of Western Ontario in London."

Jeff Preston will continue to raise funds for MD as he is the Board Chair of Jesse's Journey, a Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy-specific research charity.
