The Director of Education for the Bluewater District School Board is retiring.
The announcement was made at Tuesday's regular Board of Education meeting.
Alana Murray will retire as of August 31st, 2020.
Murray presented a letter of resignation during an in-camera meeting, just before the regular board meeting.
She says, "It's important to know when to leave and leave it to the next generation to move forward. This is my time."
Murray has spent 38 years in the education field, starting at Chesley District High School in 1982.
As she leaves her position as Director of Education, she says the entire province needs to discuss the future vision of learning.
Murray points out, "The traditional structure of education is becoming less and less relevant to our future generations of students and we really need to take a look at that."
Chair of the Board of Trustees Jan Johnstone says Murray has been a fundamental part of Bluewater.
Johnstone says they are extremely grateful for the "legacy she leaves through her years of selfless work to enrich the lives of many, both in and beyond the classroom."
The Bluewater Board will begin the hunt for a new director immediately.
