Huron-Bruce MPP Defends Province, In Talks With Teachers

Huron-Bruce | by Peter Jackson

As teachers stage third walkout in as many weeks, Lisa Thompson says Education Minister is trying to be fair.

This is a regular school day for students in the Avon-Maitland District School Board, but that's not the case everywhere across the province.

For the second week in a row, the Ontario Secondary School Teachers' Federation is targeting certain school boards with a one-day walkout, to back up contract demands.

The OSSTF also staged a provincewide one day walkout on December 4th, one day after the union and the provincial government walked away from the bargaining table.

Huron-Bruce Progressive Conservative MPP Lisa Thompson hopes calm heads will prevail, and return to negotiations.

She defends the province's position, saying they're trying to be reasonable and fair.

The union is concerned about possible cuts to education funding, and a proposal to increase class sizes.
