SRPC Living Wage Increases In Huron And Perth

Huron-Perth | by Peter Jackson

The Social Research and Planning Council says $17.55 per hour is a living wage for a family of four

The County of Huron this week will be recognized as a Living Wage Employer, by the United Way Perth-Huron's Social Research and Planning Council.

The certificate to be issued at Wednesday's County Council meeting comes not long after the SRPC announced an increase in the living wage, to $17.55 per hour.

United Way Executive Director Ryan Erb explains that the living wage is based on the needs of a family of four, in which both parents are working full time.

Erb is pleased that an increasing number of businesses in Huron and Perth are certifying as Living Wage Employers.

He adds that employees and the businesses they work for, both benefit by the living wage.

So far, over 20 businesses have certified as Living Wage Employers while Erb says another 30 are looking at the idea.
