The 98 the Beach Light the Way Radiothon is Tomorrow

Saugeen Shores | by Megan Johnson

From 6 am until 6 pm people can drop in or call 519-832-GIVE (4483) to make a Hospital Donation

Tomorrow (Dec 12) 98 the Beach will be "Lighting the Way" for the Saugeen Memorial Hospital Foundation (SMHF) as it hosts its 4th annual Radiothon.

From 6 am until 6 pm volunteers will be taking calls (519-832-4483) on and off-air in hopes of raising $80,000 for the Southampton Hospital.

Over the years the Radiothon has increased its fundraising total and is hoping to reach or surpass the $80,000 mark; which was the total in 2018.

Hospital Foundation Executive Director, Tracy Murray says the annual equipment list will reap the benefits of the Radiothon.

"Which still has over $350,000 in items that still need to be purchased this fiscal year," she says.

She adds, "There's some equipment for diagnostic imaging; a new ultrasound machine. There are always I.T. needs and updating software for medical imaging so that machined and equipment can still continue to function at highspeeds."

A full list of needs can be found here.

Murray says new to the Radiothon format are "Power Hours" where if individuals donate during a specific hour, their names can be put in a raffle to win a prize donated by sponsors: Power Hour 10-11 (Lakeshore Recreation Membership and Yeti Product and Peninsula Ford Swag), Power Hour 12-1 ( 4 pack VIP Owen Sound Attack Tickets, 4 sets of branded mugs, scarves and mitts) Power Hour  3-4  (Rowland's Independent and Port Elgin Pharmasave gift cards  and Saugeen Shores Winterhawks - Jersey).

The Culmination of the Heath Care Lottery will also take place as the names of the Lottery Grand Prize winners will be drawn at 4:15 pm.

From 2-6 there will be an Auction for Toronto Maple Leaf Tickets against the New Jersey Devils, with the winner  announced by at the end of Radiothon.

Murray says if people have received Light the Way mail they can return their donation to her directly during the Radiothon.

"Just drop in bring your donation we love chatting and meeting people," says Murray.

She adds, "they can call in and challenge people, co-workers or businesses to meet or beat their donation."
