The Huron Perth Healthcare Alliance says the emergency department at Clinton Public Hospital will become a 12-hour a day operation, starting next month.
HPHA officials say they've encountered challenges in recruiting nurses for the past five years, and the shortage has now become acute.
They add that they've posted 18 nursing vacancies at CPH in the last year largely due to retirements of experienced nurses, and part-time staff leaving to pursue full-time careers.
In a news release issued Friday, the HPHA points to the exacting nature of nursing in a rural setting, which often makes it difficult to recruit new graduates.
The Clinton Public Hospital emerg will be open from 8am till 8pm, starting Monday December 2nd until further notice.
