Storm Forces Change In Goderich Boardwalk Project

Goderich | by Peter Jackson

Mayor John Grace says work is now starting at Rotary Cove Beach and working north

A recent windstorm has forced a change in the approach to construction of Goderich's new, $800 thousand beach boardwalk.

Because much of the damage caused by high waves happened toward the north end of the three beaches, Mayor John Grace says work will start at the south end instead.

He adds that the nature of the overall construction job won't change.

The windstorm pushed high waves on-shore near Beach Street Station, piling up sand, stones and sections of the existing boardwalk that are to be replaced.

Goderich-based Art's Landscaping was awarded the contract for boardwalk construction recently.

Work has started and will take a break when winter weather arrives.

Grace says the new, $800 thousand pressed-timber boardwalk will be complete by the fall of next year.
