The Hanover Raceway Committee has made a post time request change to the Ontario Racing Commission.
Committee Member and Councilor Steve Fitzsimmons says they would like the post time to change from 7:15 pm to 2 pm.
He says the time request change was prompted from input from the public.
Many families would prefer an earlier race time so that those with children don't have to leave early to get the kids to bed.
Another advantage says Fitzsimmons is that an afternoon race time would have less competition against other harness racing activity across the province in terms of bet handling.
He says Hanover would have one of the only races taking place at that time of day in terms of people betting on their product.
Fitzsimmons notes the Hanover Raceway had a three percent decline last year in betting handle.
He says betting handle is one of the metrics the Ontario Racing measures horse racing with.
As such by adopting an earlier race post time, Fitzsimmons says the Raceway Committee hope to appease families, attract more people and improve their betting handle.
The Ontario Racing Commission is expected to provide a ruling on the post time request change by the end of November.
The post time change request would exclude the Hanover Raceway’s signature Dream of Glory race night which is followed by fireworks, this would remain at 6:15 post time.
