Owen Sound | by Cody Misner

Owen Sound and Intertownship Firefighters responded to the blaze in an apartment.

Over 20 firefighters from both the Intertownship Fire Department and the Owen Sound Fire Department responded to an apartment fire on 14th St West in Owen Sound Sunday.

According to Deputy Fire Chief Michael Clark, there was a fire on the third floor.

He says crews evacuated the third and fourth floors of all residents while checking on residents on the first and second floors.

Clark says three people were taken to hospital and firefighters rescued three cats and a dog.

According to city police, those three people have all been released from the hospital.

Clark says the OSFD got the call at 8:49am and immediately called Intertownship for support.

Crews were on scene with ten trucks and paramedics.

Owen Sound Police blocked 14th St West from 2nd Ave W up to 3rd Ave W.

According to police, the cause of fire was determined to be accidental.

The cost of the damages are unknown at this time, but police say other units near the fire had smoke and water damage.

Grey County Housing attended the scene to help with cleanup and to assist displaced tenants.
