If a new hospital ends up being somewhere other than the current location of Orillia Soldiers' Memorial Hospital, city councillors want to know what the impact will be on the downtown.
Council committee has agreed to spend $40,000 on an economic impact study.
Where possible, councillors were told OSMH would share information and support the consultants in a survey of relevant hospital stakeholders.
The consultants could also reach out to the Downtown Orillia Management Boarde and the Orillia District Chamber of Commerce to survey businesses in the downtown area.
Where a new hospital is built remains a question mark, as the hospital has only completed phase one of the building project for the health ministry, and it's phase two when a site decision is most often made.
