*UPDATE* Overnight House Fire in Shelburne

Shelburne | by Jill Young

The third floor of an old home in Shelburne caught fire overnight into Wednesday at Second Ave W and Owen Sound St.

All of the occupants of a multi-unit home in Shelburne have been displaced after a fire broke out.

Overnight, a fire started on the third floor of the large historic home at the corner of Owen Sound Street and Second Avenue West.

Shelburne and District Fire Department had help from Rosemont, Grand Valley and Orangeville Fire Departments.

Shelburne Fire Chief Brad Lemaich says this kind of fire on the top floor of an old home is a challenging one, because of the way the homes were built then.

He says the fire destroyed the two units on the third floor and from there smoke seeped all the way into the basement.

Lemaich says at this time it is not believed to be suspicious.

10 adult tenants, and one child were forced out, and Dufferin Caledon Victim Services and the Red Cross stepped in to help them.

The house was recently listed for sale.
